Every project platform in this market now advertises AI, and almost none of them price it the same way. Reading the four pricing pages we check each night in October 2026, the AI charge takes one of four shapes, and the shape matters more than the headline number, because it decides what happens to your bill when either your team or your usage grows.
| Shape | How it works | The published number | Who it hurts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per seat ClickUp | A recurring monthly charge on every paid seat, on top of the plan rate | Brain AI $9 and Everything AI $28 per user a month, billed yearly; AI Super Credits $10 per 10,000 for top-ups | Anyone rolling AI out to the whole team, because the charge scales with headcount whether or not each person uses it |
| Per request Asana | A flat price for each AI request, above an included allowance, taken from a prepaid pack or billed in arrears | $0.50 per request prepaid, or $0.60 per request on demand, with a monthly spend cap available | Heavy individual users, since a small number of people can generate a large share of the requests |
| Per credit monday.com | An allowance of credits per plan per month, priced on the card, with the same amount discounted off the total | 1,000 credits = $10 on Basic, 2,000 = $20 on Standard, 3,000 = $30 on Pro, at $10 per 1,000 | Teams that outgrow the allowance, because credits are per account rather than per user and do not scale with headcount |
| Bundled Wrike | Named inside the tier you already buy, with no separate AI product or price | AI Essentials on Team at $10 a user a month; AI Elite on Business at $25. No AI line price on the page | Teams that want the upper AI tier, because the only way to buy it is to move the whole account up a plan |
| Not published Zoho CRM, Pipedrive | AI features are named in navigation; no figure appears beside them on the pricing page | No published AI price | Anyone trying to budget for it before a sales conversation |
Read from the vendors' own pricing pages in October 2026: clickup.com/pricing, asana.com/pricing, monday.com/pricing, wrike.com/price (checked October 12, 2026), zoho.com/crm/pricing and pipedrive.com/en/pricing. Values are per user per month unless labelled, and exclude taxes.
ClickUp is the clearest per-seat case, because it sells AI as a separate product with its own card. Brain AI is $9 a user a month; a seat on Unlimited is $7 on the annual cycle. The two together are $16, so the AI line is worth more than the software it is attached to.
| ClickUp Unlimited | Seat bill / month | With Brain AI, $9 | With Everything AI, $28 | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 seats | $35 | $80 | $175 | +129% / +400% |
| 15 seats | $105 | $240 | $525 | +129% / +400% |
| 50 seats | $350 | $800 | $1,750 | +129% / +400% |
Monthly figures on Unlimited's annual rate of $7 a user a month plus the published AI add-on rate, our arithmetic, tax excluded, checked October 2026. The same AI rates apply to ClickUp's Business tier at $12, taking it to $21 or $40 a seat.
A per-seat AI charge is the most predictable of the four shapes and the least forgiving of a wide rollout: the percentage increase is identical at 5 seats and at 50, because both numbers are multiplied by the same headcount. Whether that is good value depends entirely on how many of your seats use the feature. A team where two people generate all the AI output pays for fifty.
Asana takes the opposite approach and prices AI by the request instead of by the person. Its pricing page states the position plainly, and then answers the obvious follow-up about control in the same block.
The practical difference between the two shapes is what happens when a handful of people become power users. Ten Asana seats making fifty extra requests a month cost between $25 and $30 on top of the seats; ten ClickUp seats with Brain AI cost $90 a month whether the feature is used or not. Reverse the usage pattern — one person making a thousand requests — and Asana's $500 to $600 for that month costs more than a whole seat-based AI rollout would have. Neither shape is cheaper in general; they penalise different behaviour.
The prepaid pack also carries the smaller caveat that the discount is a trade for flexibility rather than a saving: $0.50 a request is only available by paying up front for capacity that is valid for the billing cycle, while pay-as-you-go is $0.60 and can be capped. Asana's own seat ladder, including the seat increments that decide how many seats you actually buy at an odd headcount, is broken down in the Asana pricing analysis.
monday.com does something none of the others do: it shows the AI charge as a line item inside the card's own arithmetic, and then discounts it away. At the 10 seats the pricing page opens on, the Basic card reads exactly this:
Read literally, the card is charging for AI and immediately refunding the charge, which nets to zero today and leaves the discount as the only thing standing between the printed total and a higher one. Because the allowance is per account rather than per user, it is also the one AI line that does not grow with the team: 25 seats on Basic still receives 1,000 credits a month, the same allowance a three-person account gets, and the allowance only rises when the plan moves up a tier.
That shape inverts the ranking of the cheapest seats once AI is priced in. At 10 seats, ClickUp Unlimited with Brain AI is $160 a month and monday.com Basic is $90 as its card currently stands — both cheaper per seat than a mid-tier plan, and no longer in the same order they appear in a rate table. The monday.com breakdown takes the card arithmetic apart line by line, and the ClickUp breakdown covers the AI add-on alongside its plan ceilings.
Wrike is the fourth shape. Its two published rates are Team $10 a user a month for 2 to 15 users and Business $25 for 5 to 200 users, and the AI tier is named inside each rather than sold beside it: Team includes AI Essentials and Business includes AI Elite. There is no AI figure anywhere on the pricing page, which means there is nothing to add and nothing to leave out — and also no way to buy the higher AI tier without moving the whole account from $10 to $25 a seat.
Zoho CRM and Pipedrive are the fifth case, and the least helpful one for budgeting: both name AI in their product navigation and neither prints a price for it on the pricing page we check. Pipedrive's add-on layer, for comparison, is fully priced and priced per company rather than per seat, from $13.33 to $41 a month for the whole account — the opposite of ClickUp's approach and a reminder that "add-on" covers two very different billing shapes in this market.
Across all five, the pattern is the same one that runs through seat pricing: the vendor decides the unit, and the unit decides your exposure. If you cannot find an AI price on the page, that is itself the finding — it means the number exists only in a sales conversation, and it should be one of the first three questions you ask.
Do not buy a per-seat AI add-on for a team that will not use it. Brain AI adds 129% to a ClickUp Unlimited bill regardless of how many seats touch the feature. If the rollout is experimental or confined to a few roles, a per-request or per-credit charge tracks that experiment and a per-seat charge does not.
Do not budget from a per-request price without a spend cap. Asana's $0.50 and $0.60 figures are flat and predictable per request, but nothing in the rate itself limits the number of requests. The same page offers a monthly spend cap for on-demand usage, and without it the only thing between a heavy user and an unbudgeted bill is the invoice arriving in arrears.
Do not assume an included AI line is free. monday.com's AI credit line is discounted back to zero on the card today, and the discount is described as a special monthly offer sitting next to a crossed-out list figure. The allowance is also per account, so a growing team does not get more of it — it gets the same 1,000 credits spread across more people.
Do not buy up a plan to reach bundled AI if the plan is the wrong size for the team. Wrike's upper AI tier is only available on Business at $25 a seat, which at 25 people is $7,500 a year, against $1,800 for the same headcount if a $10 tier had been available. The AI tier has to be worth the whole plan step, not just the difference in features.
Do not treat the four shapes as comparable numbers. A $9 per-seat charge, a $0.60 per-request charge and a $10-per-1,000-credit allowance describe three different meters. Comparing them requires a usage assumption, and the only honest way to buy is to pick the shape that matches how your team actually works.
Every rate on this page is quoted from the vendor's own pricing page in October 2026 and named beside the table it appears in, and the bills are our arithmetic on those rates. Our pricing methodology explains how rates are read and dated, and the pricing change tracker records which of these lines have moved and which have not across the vendors we re-check every night.
It depends on the vendor, and the four platforms we check nightly use four different answers. ClickUp charges separately at $9 a user a month for Brain AI. Asana lists AI as included on its Starter and Advanced cards and prices extra requests at $0.50 prepaid or $0.60 on demand. monday.com itemises AI credits as a line on the plan card and then discounts the same amount back. Wrike bundles it into the tier, with AI Essentials on Team and AI Elite on Business and no separate AI price on the page.
ClickUp's Everything AI, at $28 a user a month, four times the annual price of the seat it is added to. Brain AI is $9 a user a month. Because both are per-seat charges, the cost scales with headcount: at 50 seats Brain AI alone is $450 a month against $350 for the seats themselves.
Because the cheapest seat carries the most expensive AI. ClickUp Unlimited is $7 a user a month, the lowest published seat rate in the set, and Brain AI lifts it to $16. monday.com's Work Management Basic is $9 a user a month and its card lists 1,000 AI credits at $10 and then subtracts a $10 special monthly discount, so the AI line currently nets to zero. At 10 seats that is $160 a month on ClickUp Unlimited with Brain AI against $90 on monday.com Basic as the card stands today.
It means the bill follows usage rather than headcount. Asana prices extra AI requests at $0.50 when you pre-pay and $0.60 on demand billed monthly in arrears, at the same flat rate for every request. Ten people making fifty requests a month would pay $25 to $30 on top of their seats; the same ten people on ClickUp with Brain AI pay $90 a month whether they use any of it or not.
Zoho CRM and Pipedrive, the two CRMs in this set. Both list AI in their navigation and neither prints a figure for it on the pricing page we check each night. Wrike is the opposite case: no separate AI price either, but the page names the AI tier inside each plan, so there is nothing to buy on top.
